The Leake Academy Lady Rebels continued their impressive start to the season with a pair of wins over two of the state’s largest private schools.

The Lady Rebels beat Madison-Ridgeland Academy 52-42 on Tuesday and then held on to beat Jackson Prep 45-39 on Wednesday.

Leake will return to action this week in regular-season action when they travel to Pearl to take on Park Place Academy on Thursday. The following week, Leake is scheduled to play on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at Hartfield Academy in Flowood. Then on Thursday, Nov. 14, Leake will host Park Place.

The Lady Rebels overcame an early deficit and pulled away in the fourth quarter to take a 10-point win over the Lady Patriots on Tuesday.

MRA led 16-12 at the end of the first but the lead was cut to 26-25 at the half. The Lady Rebels tied up the game in the third as they outscored the Lady Patriots 11-10 to make the score 36-36 going to the fourth. But Leake used a 16-6 advantage in the fourth to take the win.

Miriam Prince led Leake with 19 points and six steals while Morgan Freeny had 10 points. Emmi Harkins had nine points and six assists while Ashley Smith had six points and four rebounds.

Lady Rebels 45

Jackson Prep 39

The Lady Rebels built a big first-half lead and had to hold on to take a six-point win over the Lady Patriots on Wednesday at MRA.

After the game was tied 9-9 at the end of the first, Leake outscored Prep 21-7 in the second to lead 30-16 at the half. But Jackson Prep got right back in the game in the third, outscoring Leake 19-8 to cut the lead to 38-35 going into the fourth. Leake held on in the fourth, outscoring Prep 7-4 to take the win.

Miriam Prince led Leake with 12 points, four rebounds and three assists. Emmi Harkins had 10 points, three steals and five rebounds while Morgan Freeny had nine points and three rebounds. Mabry Mayfield had eight points, seven rebounds and two blocks for the Lady Rebels.
