    Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., delivered his now famous “I Have a Dream” speech at the Lincoln Memorial on Aug. 28, 1963. A national holiday on Monday marked Dr. King’s birthday and his sacrificial role in bringing about more racial equality in America. We honor his legacy here.

    Sheriff makes six raids, brings in liquor and illegal slot machines. Officers making the raids were sheriff Will D. Brantley and Deputies Clarence Garrison, George Henry Hillman, Darris Wiliamson, and Bob Tindol with Clayton Lewis, County Attorney. Officers reported the finding of sixteen half pints of liquor and twelve pints full of liquor.

This week, Dewey Phillip Bryant closed out his final of two terms as Mississippi’s 64th governor.

    President Roosevelt nominated Attorney General Frank Murphy to be an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court and Solicitor General Robert H. Jackson to succeed him as head of the Justice Department. The president also sent to the Senate the nomination of Judge Francis Biddle of the third circuit court of appeals to the solicitor general.
